When I got up this a.m., I was telling my mom about the dreams I had last night. In addition to one with Jon Bon Jovi in my shower [it really wasn't thrilling, I swear, lol], I had a dream that I was listening to snippets of Clay's album. And then I come to the board, and here they are!! Strange! The ones I looped were "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" [guh! between the music and his voice, I'm dead] and "Everything I Have." Was sad that none were more than mid-tempo, but I'll live. After reading Stacia's comments, I was afraid I was going to have to eat my "Because You Loved Me" words. I'm not eating them yet, but I do like the arrangement on it. The lyrics/song still irritate me, so we'll see. But the music is quite nice. What a dorky blogger! He rambled to us, lol. And what did he mean by driving around the country after he's done "chilling"? It's too early for a tour. An Aiken Road Trip? Is he eating at diners in middle-of-nowhere places like Alton Brown? It sounds like it's going to be a whole new take on 'Sorry.' And in some of the songs, there's great use of acoustic guitar, which always grabs me. (Big surprise there, right?) Lonely No More sounds fantastic; the only thing I wish is that they had given it a different title since it comes right on top of the other one. Take Me Home could have worked, but that's nit-picking, isn't it? I have a really dumb question. Which one is Here You Come Again? I've only heard them all run together since I missed the page at Sony and I have no idea. I'm trying to use the process of elimination, but there are some others I haven't tied in to their title yet (Yes, I'm 80's pop music stoopid.) so I'm not sure. Is it the one with the word 'defenses' in it? Am I right? I did recognize Because You Loved Me once I heard it. So there'll be one song I might not love all that much. I'm also now surprised that WY ended up being the first single. I've only had time to listen twice, but it seems to me one of the strengths is the modernization of the arrangements and that one doesn't seem that updated. But maybe it's because I know that song. I have to get back to work, but I can't wait to listen again. I'm pretty happy with my first impressions. There's no saying you can't hear that voice. Oh, and the blog! So cute. Bored, huh? Got back in from meeting friends about an hour ago and had this frantic e-mail from Katy, who's at work, demanding that I tell her about the songs cos she can't hear them yet. First I was like OMG how can I go out and miss THIS! But EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Anyway, this is how I described them to her. *Quote:* OK, we'll go from the beginning. Sorry Seems to be the hardest word Not enough for me to judge - it's ok - they're all good but it's not my favourite clip. When I see you smile words - when I see you smile, I can face the world - ohhhhhhhhhhh make everything all right. The long ohhhhhh is different to the original. It's not hugely rocking, on this bit, but it has a good beat to it. It's sort of OK, I would've liked it to rock more but I'm not really sure whether this will be a rocking song - and this IS only 30 seconds of the song. Everything I do I do it for you It definitely has a flavour of the original in the backing and Clay has definitely done something different with his voice, it's slightly higher and has a slightly rougher edge to it. Quite sweet but I think it will be compared to the original. This was one I worried about. It's almost like he was trying to be like Bryan Adams a bit. It's nice though. I'm not sure yet. I just wanted it to be more different - maybe other parts are. Because you loved me The driving beat on this makes me already prefer it to Celine's version. Sweet voice, it's not bad. Hard to tell really. IWKWLI This is the bit with just HIM on. It's fine but I'm glad they didn't release it as the single. OK. This again, does not sound quite like him in parts. I'm not sure about this one - it's a little high for his voice maybe. These Open Arms I have to confess that I've fallen in love with Bon Jovi's version of this. I've definitely listened to it too much. Yes Clay is good but the bit I really wanted to hear is the rocking bit towards the end of the song and this clip doesn't include that. I do like it though. Here you come again I think I will love this one. It's really sweet. It's not as slowed down as the Maureen McGovern version - which is good in some ways but not others. I liked Dolly's version a lot but this is somewhere in between the two in tempo. Nice - very sweet. Everything I Have (LOVE THIS! Reminds me of MOAM in the concept.) (words) ...and in your eyes I would give all I'm worth to be a part of your life. I could promise the world but it's out of my hands. I can only give you everything I am. I never dreamed..... I'm just not usually good at describing what I think in a way that makes sense. I will say that his voice does sound front and center on all the songs. I'm just not sure how I feel about the arrangements. But I think this is why I'm not sure it's a good idea for me to listen to snippets. I just don't get the full feel for the song and it's hard to really judge it until I do. But I am listening to ATD right now and I still really, really like it. And the blog...he's too cute. And he's nervous and antsy and anxious just like us. And for some reason seeing him write the words Chingy and Chilling made me giggle. These clips are probably all from near the beginning of the songs and so it's very hard to judge what the rest will be like. For instance, my first thoughts on Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word were, not really enough emotion, but like Without You, there is probably going to be a big build up and I think it will be something that will probably sound much better once we hear the whole song - and certainly better live. I am totally in love with what I've heard of Lonely No More and Everything I Have. Maybe it's because they're totally new, I don't know. His voice sounds relaxed on them too, as it does on Here You Come Again. Not sure if the arrangements on some of these snippets make his voice sound slightly strained. I hope there's more lower register in the other bits. IWTKWLI is a bit odd too. I'm so used to hearing Suzie on the other bits that it sounds kind of like a solo of Clay like this.
